Douro DOC Representative

The Vertente is Niepoort's entry into the dry Douro world — accessible, but with the house's characteristic signature.

Niepoort from Vila Nova de Gaia is one of the defining names of the Douro Valley. The family winery has been known for its ports for generations, but has also set standards for still wines. The Vertente combines classic Douro grape varieties — typically Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, and Tinta Roriz — into a wine that shows the strengths of the region without becoming heavy.

In the glass, it shows a medium ruby red. The nose brings dark berries, violets, and a mineral undertone that lies in the slate and granite-rich soils of the Douro. On the palate, soft, ripe tannins, a lively acidity, and aromas of blackberry and cassis. The finish is balanced and characterized by a subtle spice.
