Castelfeder S. Magdalener Classico Schallerhof
The S. Magdalener Classico Schallerhof from Castelfeder shows what the classic South Tyrolean red wine tradition can do: light body, aromatic density, easy-drinking character.
The Castelfeder winery is located in Neumarkt on the South Tyrolean Wine Road and is one of the region's most reliable producers. Their Sankt Magdalener Classico comes from the historic growing region around Bolzano – the Classico designation is tied to the core zone with its best hillside vineyards. The base grape is Vernatsch , complemented by a small percentage of Lagrein, which lends the wine some structure and color.
In the glass, it shines ruby red with garnet reflections. The nose reveals violets, wild cherry, and a delicate almond note – typical of a well-made Vernatsch from this vineyard. On the palate, it is light, with soft tannins and a fresh, medium acidity. The finish is spicy and pleasantly dry.
Serving temperature: 14–16 °C . Drink now – no need for long cellaring. Pairs well with South Tyrolean speck, grilled sausages, pasta with tomato sauce , or a strong mountain cheese. An uncomplicated everyday companion with regional character.
