Villa Karneid Lagrein

Villa Karneid Lagrein
The Villa Karneid Lagrein from Castelfeder shows what South Tyrol's most distinctive red wine variety can do: dark fruit, silky texture and a depth that goes far beyond the price.
Castelfeder is one of the most reliable wineries in the Eisack Valley and the Überetsch region. The winery has been working with indigenous South Tyrolean grape varieties for decades—Lagrein and Vernatsch are central to their production. The Villa Karneid vineyard takes its name from the medieval line of castles between Bolzano and Cardano, where Lagrein grapes thrive in the gravelly-loamy soils.
In the glass, the wine shines a rich garnet red with violet reflections. The bouquet offers blackberry and blueberry, followed by violets and a hint of dark chocolate. On the palate, it is broad and warm, with velvety tannins and a lively, yet never intrusive, acidity. The finish is long and spicy.
Serving temperature: 16–18 °C. Pairs well with venison goulash , braised lamb shoulder , or spicy mountain cheese from the Vinschgau Valley. Ready to drink now, but will easily keep for another three to five years.
