Castelfeder Gewürztraminer From the clay
Gewürztraminer is one of South Tyrol's most expressive grape varieties — and with the "Vom Lehm", Castelfeder shows what is possible when terroir and grape variety match: clay soil, which holds water and gives depth, meets the aromatic intensity of the Traminer.
Castelfeder is a family-run winery in Neumarkt in the South Tyrolean lowlands, one of the core regions for Gewürztraminer. The winery works with sites on different soil types — the addition "Vom Lehm" refers directly to the heavy, mineral-rich subsoil of this parcel, which gives the wine substance and a special aromatic density.
In the glass, the wine glows in a rich straw yellow. On the nose, it opens with classic Traminer aromas: lychee, clove, and rose blossom, behind which is a hint of ginger. On the palate, juicy, with well-integrated residual sugar and a fresh acidity line that keeps the wine lively despite its fullness. The finish is long and spicy.
