Castelfeder Riserva Burgum Novum Lagrein

Castelfeder Riserva Burgum Novum Lagrein
Lagrein in its most consistent form: dark, dense, and with a finish that stays in the memory. The Burgum Novum Riserva from Castelfeder shows what South Tyrol's most idiosyncratic red wine grape can achieve if you give it time.
Castelfeder is a family business in the lowlands between Salurn and Bolzano, which has been one of the most reliable addresses for varietal-typical South Tyrolean wines for decades. The name Burgum Novum – Latin for Neumarkt – refers to the origin and the local connection that is important to the winery. As a Riserva, this Lagrein undergoes an extended aging period in wooden barrels before it is bottled.
In the glass: deep garnet ruby red with violet reflections. On the nose, ripe black cherry, blackberry, and blueberry, underscored by dark chocolate, coffee bean, and a hint of violet. The vanilla points to the barrique contact without masking the varietal profile. On the palate, it presents itself as compact and concentrated – velvety tannins, well-integrated acidity, long spicy finish.
Best at 17–18 °C. Goes well with braised lamb shoulder, wild boar ragout, or mature mountain cheese like Graukäse from the Ahrntal.
