Villa Karneid Merlot

Villa Karneid Merlot
A Merlot that shows what South Tyrol can get out of this grape variety: profound, structured and far removed from the soft mainstream.
For generations, Castelfeder has cultivated vineyards around Neumarkt in the South Tyrolean lowlands – one of the warmest and driest corners of the Alps. The Villa Karneid comes from the eponymous vineyard near Karneid, where the soils give the Merlot the necessary depth to develop beyond mere fruitiness.
In the glass, it shines a rich garnet red with violet edges. The nose opens with aromas of sour cherry, baked plum, and a hint of licorice – the fruit is ripe but not heavy. On the palate, it becomes clear why this wine is suitable for aging: rounded tannins, a fresh acidity as a counterpoint, and a long finish with spicy notes.
Drinking window until at least 2028. Serving temperature 16–18 °C.
