Villa Karneid Merlot

A Merlot that shows what South Tyrol can extract from this grape variety: profound, structured, and far removed from the soft mainstream.

Castelfeder has been cultivating vineyards for generations around Neumarkt in the South Tyrolean lowlands – one of the warmest and driest corners of the Alps. The Villa Karneid comes from the local vineyard of the same name near Karneid, where the soils give the Merlot the necessary depth to grow beyond mere fruit.

In the glass, it glows a rich garnet red with violet edges. The nose opens with sour cherry, prune, and a hint of licorice – the fruit is ripe, but not heavy. On the palate, it shows why this wine is suitable for aging: round tannins, a fresh acidity structure as a counterpoint, and a long finish with spicy notes.

Serving temperature 16–18 °C.
