Castelfeder Gewürztraminer From the clay
Gewürztraminer is one of the most expressive grape varieties in South Tyrol — and Castelfeder shows with the “Vom Lehm” what is possible when terroir and grape variety match: clay soil, which retains water and provides depth, meets the aromatic intensity of the Traminer.
Castelfeder is a family-run winery in Neumarkt in the South Tyrolean lowlands, one of the core regions of Gewürztraminer. The winery works with vineyards on different soil types — the addition of "Vom Lehm" (From Clay) refers directly to the heavy, mineral-rich subsoil of this parcel, which gives the wine substance and a special aromatic density.
In the glass, the wine shines a rich straw yellow. On the nose, it opens with classic Traminer aromas: lychee, clove, and rose petal, with a hint of ginger in the background. On the palate, it is juicy, with well-integrated residual sweetness and a fresh acidity that keeps the wine lively despite its richness. The finish is long and spicy.
