Castelfeder Riserve Burgum Novum Pinot Nero Riserva

South Tyrol's Pinot Nero is among the most convincing interpretations of this grape variety in German-speaking countries — and the Burgum Novum from Castelfeder shows why.

The Castelfeder winery is located in Auer/Ora in the Überetsch region, one of South Tyrol's classic Pinot Noir zones. The grapes for the Burgum Novum come from old, hand-cultivated vineyards that have been selectively tended for decades. The Riserva designation signifies extended aging in oak barrels—recognizable by the depth and structure in the glass.

On the nose, the wine opens with sour cherry and dark blackberry, complemented by vanilla and subtle smoky aromas from barrel aging. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, with well-integrated tannins, lively acidity that carries the wine without being harsh, and a long, spicy finish with a hint of undergrowth.

Serving suggestion: 16–18 °C. Pairs well with braised lamb loin, venison ragù, or mature mountain cheese from South Tyrol. Drinking window: now until 2030.
