Castelfeder Riserve Burgum Novum Pinot Nero Riserva

Castelfeder Riserve Burgum Novum Pinot Nero Riserva
South Tyrol's Pinot Nero is one of the most convincing interpretations of this grape variety in the German-speaking world — and the Burgum Novum from Castelfeder shows why that is.
The Castelfeder winery is located in Auer/Ora in the Überetsch, one of the classic Pinot Nero zones of South Tyrol. The vines for the Burgum Novum come from old, hand-tended plots that have been selectively maintained for decades. The Riserva designation stands for extended aging in wooden barrels — recognizable by the depth and structure in the glass.
On the nose, the wine opens with sour cherry and dark blackberry, complemented by vanilla and subtle smoke aromas from the barrel aging. In the mouth, medium to full body, well-integrated tannins, lively acidity that carries the wine without stinging — and a long, spicy finish with a hint of undergrowth.
Serving recommendation: 16–18 °C. Goes well with braised lamb loin, game ragù, or mature mountain cheese from South Tyrol.
