Cantina Terlan Gewürztraminer

Gewürztraminer is at home in South Tyrol – and Cantina Terlan has been demonstrating for decades what this grape variety can achieve on volcanic porphyry soils. Not a wine for the faint of heart.

The cooperative in Terlan, founded in 1893, is one of Italy's most consistent white wine producers. Strict selection in the vineyard, controlled fermentation in stainless steel, six months of aging on the lees – the result is a Gewürztraminer that displays varietal character without heaviness.

Pale straw yellow in the glass. On the nose, lychee, rose petal, and blossom honey – the classic Gewürztraminer trio, presented here with a clear focus rather than overpowering aromas. Spicy and powerful on the palate, the aromatics assert themselves without being overpowering. The finish is long and lingers with a fresh quality.

Serving suggestion: Serve chilled at 10–12 °C. Pairs well with mild blue cheese, duck liver, Asian dishes with coconut milk, or as an accompaniment to goat cheese risotto. Best enjoyed now until 2027.

Cantina Terlan

Since 1893, the Terlan winery in South Tyrol's Adige Valley has stood for something that has become rare in modern winemaking: patience. What was once founded by 24 winegrowers as a cooperative to emancipate themselves from large landowners is today one of the most prestigious addresses in Alpine winemaking. Cellar master Rudi Kofler, who has shaped the winery since 2002, continues a philosophy established by his predecessor Sebastian Stocker in the 1970s: extended lees aging, consistent focus on quality over quantity, and a legendary wine archive of around 100,000 bottles dating back to 1955. Terlan proves that white wines from volcanic porphyry soil and an Alpine microclimate can be among the longest-lived in the world.
