Château La Pointe Pomerol
Pomerol without the fuss: Château La Pointe shows what the right bank of Bordeaux can do when Merlot grows on heavy, iron-rich clay — depth, velvet texture and a cool fruit clarity that will last for years.
The château is located in the western part of the Pomerol appellation, one of France's smallest and most sought-after terroirs. The 2016 vintage was exceptional in Bordeaux: after a difficult early summer, dry autumn weeks saved the harvest—dense tannins, ripe fruit, and good acidity. James Suckling awarded this vintage 93 points.
In the glass: Aromas of ripe cherries and blackberry jam, underpinned by cedarwood and a hint of dark chocolate. Medium to full-bodied, velvety tannins, long, slightly spicy finish. No intrusive oak influence—the fruit remains the focus.
Serving suggestion: Ready to drink now, will keep until 2028. Serving temperature 16–17 °C. Pairs well with braised beef, duck legs with lentils or mature Brie de Meaux.

It would have been easier to rest on their laurels. But the Castell family thinks ahead. They preserve their expertise, pass on their passion to the next generation, and cultivate their châteaux and estates with joy and vision. For them, wine is more than a product: it's about culture. About sharing knowledge, exchanging ideas with chefs, sommeliers, and all those who love good taste. Producing regional wines and Grands Crus is one thing. Another is keeping nothing to themselves. Sustainably, responsibly, and with heart. Because at Castel Châteaux & Grands Crus, they live by the conviction that wine must follow its own vision. Persistently, boldly, and with a flame that carries on – from generation to generation.
