Cantina Terlan Winkl Sauvignon

This pleasantly delicate and well-balanced Sauvignon Blanc presents itself in the glass with a pale yellow color and greenish hues. With its intensely fruity bouquet, hints of elderflower, and notes of ripe fruit, it is the ideal accompaniment to green asparagus or fresh goat cheese. The Winkl vineyard near Terlan (300-350 m above sea level) is characterized by light, sandy porphyry soils and a consistently warm climate. Fermentation takes place at controlled temperatures in stainless steel tanks, followed by aging and maturation on the fine lees for eight months. Since 1893, the Terlan winery in South Tyrol's Adige Valley has stood for something that has become rare in modern winemaking: patience. What was once founded by 24 winegrowers as a cooperative to emancipate themselves from large landowners is today one of the most prestigious addresses in Alpine winemaking. Cellar master Rudi Kofler, who has shaped the winery since 2002, continues a philosophy established by his predecessor Sebastian Stocker in the 1970s: extended lees aging, consistent focus on quality over quantity, and a legendary wine archive of around 100,000 bottles dating back to 1955. Terlan proves that white wines from volcanic porphyry soil and an Alpine microclimate can be among the longest-lived in the world.
