Donnafugata Sur Sur Grillo

Donnafugata Sur Sur Grillo
Donnafugata's Sur Sur Grillo shows what Sicily can do in white wine: Mediterranean warmth with genuine freshness in the finish.
Donnafugata is one of Sicily's most renowned wineries, cultivating vineyards around Marsala and on Pantelleria. Grillo is an indigenous Sicilian grape variety that, thanks to its thick-skinned berries, retains its acidity and aromatics even in hot summers – a smart choice for the island's climate.
In the glass, the Sur Sur shines a golden yellow with green reflections. The nose offers pineapple, papaya, and a hint of white peach, with a subtle spiciness underneath. On the palate, it is round and full-bodied, yet not heavy – the freshness maintains the balance, and the finish remains dry and slightly salty. Three independent tasters (James Suckling, Wine Enthusiast, and Luca Maroni) each awarded the 2016 vintage 90–91 points.
Serving temperature: 10–12 °C . Pairs well with grilled sea bass, spaghetti alle vongole, or a light goat cheese. Also a good choice as an uncomplicated summer evening wine on its own.

Donnafugata – “woman on the run.” The name references the novel “Il Gattopardo” and the story of a queen who found refuge precisely where the vineyards now lie. This is the inspiration for the logo. Giacomo Rallo founded the winery in 1983 with his wife Gabriella. He came from a family with over 160 years of experience in quality winemaking and revolutionized the style of Sicilian wines. Until his death in 2016, he led the winery with vision. Today, José and Antonio Rallo, the fifth generation, manage a team of professionals who share excellence and the Italian way of life with the world – always seeking new challenges.
