Donnafugata Sedara Rosso

Sicily's sun-drenched south, Donnafugata's home region around Marsala and Pantelleria, produces red wines that combine warmth and freshness. The Sedara is the approachable entry point into the Donnafugata portfolio—and one of the most reliable Sicilian wines of its class.

Donnafugata has been among the island's top wineries since the 1980s. The Rallo family cultivates vineyards in Contessa Entellina and on Pantelleria, consistently focusing on quality in the vineyard and playing a key role in establishing Sicily's international wine reputation. Their Sedara carries the Sicilia DOC designation and is based on local grape varieties from the island.

In the glass, a deep ruby red with garnet reflections. On the nose, blackberry and blueberry, complemented by black pepper and a hint of Mediterranean garrigue. On the palate, it displays a rounded structure with soft tannins and lively freshness—not a heavy southern Sicilian, but an easy-drinking red wine with genuine character. James Suckling rated the 2015 vintage 90 points , Luca Maroni 91 points .

Serving temperature: 16–18 °C. Pairs well with grilled lamb, pasta with ragù, or a mature Pecorino Siciliano. It also makes a good wine on its own as an evening drink.

Donnafugata

Donnafugata – “woman on the run.” The name references the novel “Il Gattopardo” and the story of a queen who found refuge precisely where the vineyards now lie. This is the inspiration for the logo. Giacomo Rallo founded the winery in 1983 with his wife Gabriella. He came from a family with over 160 years of experience in quality winemaking and revolutionized the style of Sicilian wines. Until his death in 2016, he led the winery with vision. Today, José and Antonio Rallo, the fifth generation, manage a team of professionals who share excellence and the Italian way of life with the world – always seeking new challenges.
