Donnafugata La Fuga Contessa Entellina Chardonny
A Sicilian Chardonnay that shows what the island can achieve with cool locations and careful vinification – fresh, mineral, with a wealth of southern aromas.
Donnafugata has been cultivating the extensive Contessa Entellina vineyard in southwestern Sicily, about 70 km southeast of Palermo, since the 1980s. The elevated location at over 300 meters above sea level brings cool nights that protect the aromatics and preserve the acidity – crucial for a Chardonnay at this latitude.
In the glass, a brilliant straw yellow. On the nose, pineapple and grapefruit, followed by a hint of lemon blossom and the dry, wild herb notes of the Sicilian maquis. On the palate, powerful but not heavy – a lively acidity keeps the tropical fruit aromas in balance. The finish is mineral and lingeringly saline, typical of the calcareous soils of the Contessa Entellina DOC. James Suckling awarded the 2016 vintage 91 points .
Serving temperature 10–12 °C. Pairs well with grilled sea bass with capers, linguine alle vongole, or a mild pecorino fresco. Drink now.
