Chanson Monthelie 1.Cru Gauthey

The Monthélie 1er Cru Gauthey from Chanson stands for what characterizes the Côte de Beaune in its quiet class: Pinot Noir from one of the lesser-known but convincing appellations of Burgundy — without the price of a Gevrey or Pommard.

Domaine Chanson is one of the oldest Négociant houses of the Côte d'Or, founded in 1750 in Beaune. Today, the house operates with precise craftsmanship in the cellar and vineyard, with a focus on the varietal expressive power of the individual sites. Monthélie is located immediately west of Volnay — geologically related, stylistically similar, but significantly more accessible in price.

In the glass, the Gauthey shows the typical Pinot Noir palette of the Côte de Beaune: sour cherry and red plum, underpinned by violets and a fine hint of earth and clove from the barrique aging. The body is medium-weight, the tannins silky with slight grip — typical of Burgundy without heaviness. The finish brings a fresh acidity line that keeps the wine lively.

Drinkable now, develops until approx. 2030.

Domaine Chanson

Domaine Chanson, founded in 1750, is one of the oldest and most prestigious wineries in Burgundy. It is among the few estates that have survived since the 18th century. Since 1999, it has been part of the Bollinger Group, which has undertaken extensive restorations and modernizations to make the winery one of the finest in Burgundy. Nestled amidst picturesque hills, the 45 hectares of vineyards flourish in the most prestigious appellations, including Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune, and Chablis. Here, tradition and modernity blend seamlessly, creating a unique symbiosis that imparts a distinctive character to each wine. The historic Bastion, a 15th-century wine cellar, is the heart of the estate. Within these venerable walls, the wines mature to true perfection under ideal conditions. Each bottle tells a story of dedication and craftsmanship.
