Mercurey Premier Cru le Clos l'Evèque

Mercurey Premier Cru le Clos l'Evèque
Mercurey is one of the quiet greats of the Côte Chalonnaise – and this Premier Cru from Clos l'Evêque shows why that is: a Pinot Noir with Burgundian precision that combines elegance and substance.
Domaine Chanson is one of the oldest wineries in the Côte de Beaune, founded in 1750 in Beaune. The Domaine cultivates vineyards in several Burgundy appellations – from village wine to Grand Cru. The Clos l'Evêque is a classic Premier Cru vineyard in Mercurey, on clayey limestone, which gives the Pinot Noir structure and depth.
In the glass, the wine shows a clear ruby red. On the nose, sour cherry, red plum, and a hint of peony, underpinned by licorice and discreet black pepper. On the palate, medium body, silky tannin, vibrant acidity – the finish is long with a spicy fruit note.
Serving recommendation: Serving temperature 16–17 °C. Pairs well with Coq au Vin, duck breast with cherries, or aged Époisses.

Domaine Chanson, founded in 1750, is one of the oldest and most prestigious wineries in Burgundy. It is among the few estates that have survived since the 18th century. Since 1999, it has been part of the Bollinger Group, which has undertaken extensive restorations and modernizations to make the winery one of the finest in Burgundy. Nestled amidst picturesque hills, the 45 hectares of vineyards flourish in the most prestigious appellations, including Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune, and Chablis. Here, tradition and modernity blend seamlessly, creating a unique symbiosis that imparts a distinctive character to each wine. The historic Bastion, a 15th-century wine cellar, is the heart of the estate. Within these venerable walls, the wines mature to true perfection under ideal conditions. Each bottle tells a story of dedication and craftsmanship.
