Beaune Clos du Roi Premier Cru
The Beaune Clos du Roi Premier Cru is the Burgundian heart of Domaine Tollot-Beaut – a family-owned estate in Chorey-lès-Beaune since the 19th century, now managed with meticulous attention to detail by Nathalie Tollot, who practices organic viticulture. The name carries historical weight: King Louis XI annexed the vineyard as his personal property in 1477 after the death of Charles the Bold – the dry stone walls of the original enclosure still bear witness to this.
The grapes are completely destemmed, spontaneously fermented after cold maceration and aged for around 18 months predominantly in used barriques – an approach that allows the terroir to speak without overpowering it.
In the glass, an elegant, bright cherry red. The nose opens with aromas of black berries, elderberry, and blackberry, underpinned by fine earth, spices, and a hint of violet. On the palate, juicy and profound, with silky tannins and a long, elegant finish.
Served at 16–18 °C with 13.0–14.5% ABV, aging potential until 2038. A natural accompaniment to Coq au Vin, game birds and aged Époisses – precise, profound and unmistakably from Beaune.
