Mercurey 1er Cru Rouge

Mercurey belongs to the Côte Chalonnaise – the underrated neighbor of the Côte de Nuits – and produces Pinot Noir with true Burgundian character, without the prices of the major appellations. This Premier Cru from Domaine Chanson shows why.

Chanson is one of the oldest négociant houses in the Côte de Beaune, founded in Beaune in 1750. Since its acquisition by the Bollinger Group in 1999, the estate has consistently focused on quality: stricter selection in the vineyard, gentle vinification, and aging in Burgundian pièces with a moderate proportion of new oak.

In the glass, the wine displays a deep ruby ​​red. The nose offers aromas of sour cherry and red currant, along with violets and a subtle hint of earth – typical of Mercurey's clay-limestone soils. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with fine but present tannins, lively acidity, and a finish with a touch of peppery spice. Not a heavy wine, but one with backbone and length.
