Catore Alghero Torbato DOC

Torbato is one of the oldest grape varieties in Sardinia – and Sella & Mosca has saved it from extinction. The Catore shows why that was a good decision.

The Sella & Mosca winery is located near Alghero in the northwest of Sardinia, founded in 1899, today one of the most important on the island. The Torbato vines grow on calcareous sandy soils near the coast, where the sea breeze provides natural cooling. Vinification is carried out gently at a controlled temperature to preserve the typical varietal freshness.

In the glass, the Catore glows straw yellow with green reflections. The nose shows pear, white peach, and chamomile, plus a hint of yeast pastry and a mineral undertone. On the palate, medium body, vibrant acidity without sharpness, creamy texture. The finish is dry, slightly salty – a typical sign of the proximity to the sea of the sites. No wood notes, clear fruit line.

Serving temperature 10–12 °C. Ready to drink now. Pairs with grilled sea bass, bottarga pasta, seafood, or a young Pecorino Sardo. Also a great choice as an aperitif with focaccia and olives.

Sella & Mosca

The Italian winery Sella & Mosca was founded in 1899 by Emilio Sella and Edgardo Mosca. Located on the island of Sardinia, near the city of Alghero, it is now owned by the Campari Group. A total of 550 hectares of vineyards are used to cultivate grapes for the production of both white and red wines. The volcanic soils, combined with the local Mediterranean climate, provide perfect conditions for vine growth. Grape varieties used for red wine production include Connonau, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carignano, and Merlot. Sella & Mosca's white wines are made from grape varieties such as Vermentino, Sauvignon Blanc, and Torbato.
