La Cala Vermentino di Sardegna DOC

La Cala Vermentino di Sardegna DOC
Vermentino is the soul of Sardinia – and the La Cala from Sella & Mosca shows why: fresh, aromatic, with a salty note reminiscent of the island's sea air.
Sella & Mosca is one of Sardinia's oldest and most renowned wineries. The estate, located near Alghero in the northwest of the island, has been cultivated since 1899 – today it encompasses over 500 hectares, one of the largest contiguous vineyards in Italy. La Cala is their most approachable Vermentino: vinified simply, without oak, and focused on freshness and directness.
Straw yellow in the glass with greenish reflections. The nose offers white blossoms, fresh fennel, and a hint of lemon zest. On the palate, a slightly creamy texture, lively acidity, and a crisp, slightly salty finish – typical of the Vermentino grape in its Sardinian homeland.
- Food: Antipasti, fish carpaccio, grilled prawns, linguine alle vongole or a simple burrata with olive oil
- Temperature: 10–12 °C
- Drink now until 2026 – not a wine for aging, but a wine for the moment.

The Italian winery Sella & Mosca was founded in 1899 by Emilio Sella and Edgardo Mosca. Located on the island of Sardinia, near the city of Alghero, it is now owned by the Campari Group. A total of 550 hectares of vineyards are used to cultivate grapes for the production of both white and red wines. The volcanic soils, combined with the local Mediterranean climate, provide perfect conditions for vine growth. Grape varieties used for red wine production include Connonau, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carignano, and Merlot. Sella & Mosca's white wines are made from grape varieties such as Vermentino, Sauvignon Blanc, and Torbato.
