Marchese di Villamarina Alghero DOC Riserva

Marchese di Villamarina Alghero DOC Riserva
A single-varietal Cabernet Sauvignon from Sardinia's most famous winery – with the depth of long barrel aging and the island's Mediterranean character.
Sella & Mosca has been cultivating around 500 hectares near Alghero in northwest Sardinia since 1899 – one of Italy's largest contiguous estates. The Marchese di Villamarina is the house's top Riserva: named after the founder, vinified exclusively from Cabernet Sauvignon, and aged for several years in small oak barrels.
In the glass, it glows a deep ruby red with violet reflections. The nose reveals blackcurrant and blackberry, underpinned by tobacco, cedarwood, and a hint of dried herbs. On the palate, velvety tannins, a fresh, well-integrated acidity, and a long finish with vanilla and spicy wood notes.
Serving temperature 17–18 °C. Pairs with braised lamb shoulder, aged Pecorino Sardo, or a hearty game ragù.

The Italian winery Sella & Mosca was founded in 1899 by Emilio Sella and Edgardo Mosca. Located on the island of Sardinia, near the city of Alghero, it is now owned by the Campari Group. A total of 550 hectares of vineyards are used to cultivate grapes for the production of both white and red wines. The volcanic soils, combined with the local Mediterranean climate, provide perfect conditions for vine growth. Grape varieties used for red wine production include Connonau, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carignano, and Merlot. Sella & Mosca's white wines are made from grape varieties such as Vermentino, Sauvignon Blanc, and Torbato.
