Terre Rare Carignano del Sulcis DOC
Carignano del Sulcis is one of Sardinia's most distinctive appellations — and Sella & Mosca has been among the wineries consistently realizing its potential for decades. The Terre Rare demonstrates what this grape variety can achieve on the volcanic sandy soil of Sulcis.
The Sella & Mosca winery was founded in 1899 near Alghero in northwestern Sardinia and today cultivates around 500 hectares – one of the largest contiguous vineyards in Italy. The focus is on Sardinian grape varieties; the Carignano from the Sulcis region in the southwest of the island is a flagship wine.
In the glass, the Terre Rare displays a deep ruby color. The nose offers blackberry and pomegranate, along with dried herbs like thyme and rosemary—typical of the Sulcis maquis landscape. A hint of oak lingers in the background, subtle and supportive. On the palate, it is full-bodied, with soft tannins and a lively acidity. The finish is spicy and persistent.
