Terre Rare Carignano del Sulcis DOC

Carignano del Sulcis is one of the most idiosyncratic appellations in Sardinia — and Sella & Mosca has been one of the wineries consistently exploiting its potential for decades. The Terre Rare shows what this grape variety can do on the volcanic sandy soil of the Sulcis.

The Sella & Mosca winery was founded in 1899 near Alghero in northwestern Sardinia and today manages around 500 hectares — one of the largest contiguous wineries in Italy. The focus is on Sardinian grape varieties; the Carignano from the Sulcis in the southwest of the island is a flagship.

In the glass, the Terre Rare shows a deep ruby color. On the nose, blackberry and pomegranate, plus dried herbs like thyme and rosemary — typical for the macchia landscape of the Sulcis. A hint of wood in the background, subtle and supportive. On the palate, full-bodied, with soft tannins and an invigorating acidity structure. The finish remains spicy and lingering.

Sella & Mosca

The Italian winery Sella & Mosca was founded in 1899 by Emilio Sella and Edgardo Mosca. Located on the island of Sardinia, near the city of Alghero, it is now owned by the Campari Group. A total of 550 hectares of vineyards are used to cultivate grapes for the production of both white and red wines. The volcanic soils, combined with the local Mediterranean climate, provide perfect conditions for vine growth. Grape varieties used for red wine production include Connonau, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carignano, and Merlot. Sella & Mosca's white wines are made from grape varieties such as Vermentino, Sauvignon Blanc, and Torbato.
