Bruchsaler Rothenberg St. Laurent QbA dry

St. Laurent is considered the quieter sister of Pinot Noir—darker in color, deeper in fruit, with a distinct character that can easily be lost in the wrong hands. The Rothenberg vineyard in Bruchsal is one of the rare places where this grape variety truly shows its potential.

The Klumpp winery from Bruchsal cultivates its vineyards in the northern Baden Wine Route with a focus on single-varietal profiles. The Rothenberg vineyard provides soils that give the St. Laurent grape exactly what it needs: warmth for ripening, depth for structure.

In the glass, it displays a deep, dark red color. The nose opens with black cherry and amarena cherry, followed by cherry crumble and a hint of oriental spice—cinnamon, a touch of vanilla. With aeration, roasted aromas emerge, along with dark chocolate and juicy plum. On the palate, it offers considerable substance: firm, yet firm tannins with a real texture, cherry fruit in the background, and a long, profound finish.

Ready to drink now, but with potential until 2028. Serving temperature: 16–17 °C. Pairs well with venison goulash, braised lamb shoulder, or mature mountain cheese.

Klumpp

The Klumpp winery in Bruchsal is one of Baden's leading estates. Founded in 1983 by Ulrich and Marietta Klumpp, newcomers to the wine industry, they converted the business to organic viticulture as early as 1996 – pioneers of the organic movement in Germany. Today, the brothers Markus and Andreas Klumpp run the estate in its second generation. The vineyards stretch around Bruchsal in the Rothenberg and Weiherberg sites. The soil: a mosaic of shell limestone, Keuper marl, loess, and clay marl – ideal for characterful wines with a fine minerality. Known especially for its Pinot Noir, Klumpp regularly receives top ratings from Gault-Millau, Eichelmann, and Falstaff. Tradition meets modernity – wines full of clarity and authenticity.
