Occhetti Langhe Nebbiolo DOC
The Occhetti Langhe Nebbiolo from Prunotto shows what Nebbiolo can achieve beyond Barolo and Barbaresco: approachable yet with real character.
Prunotto is one of the most traditional wineries in Piedmont—rooted in Alba for over a century, now part of the Antinori group, but stylistically true to Piedmont. The grapes for the Occhetti come from the single vineyard of the same name near Montà d'Alba in the Roero region. Eighteen months of barrel aging give the wine structure without making it too heavy.
In the glass, it shines ruby red with an orange rim. The nose reveals raspberry, dried rose petals, and a hint of tar—typical of the grape variety, but without the austerity of a great Nebbiolo. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, with tannins offering a fine grip, lively acidity, and a finish that lingers with notes of cherries and a touch of licorice.
