Secondine Barbaresco DOCG
Prunotto's Secondine shows what Barbaresco stands for: Nebbiolo with depth, but without the power of its big brother Barolo.
Prunotto is one of the most prestigious names in Piedmont. The Alba-based winery, now part of the Antinori Group, has been cultivating wines in the classic Langhe vineyards for decades – focusing on varietal character and meticulous craftsmanship in the cellar. The Secondine vineyard lies at the heart of the Barbaresco DOCG, on the calcareous tuff soil that imparts the characteristic minerality to the Nebbiolo grape.
In the glass, the wine displays a deep ruby red with garnet reflections. On the nose, raspberry and dried rose mingle with a subtle undertone of licorice, tobacco, and white pepper – a classic Nebbiolo signature that suggests careful aging in oak barrels. On the palate, the wine is supple: the tannins are ripe and silky, the structure well-balanced, and the finish long and spicy.
