Maury Grenat

Maury Grenat
The Maury Grenat from Domaine Lafage is a southern French sweet wine with power and depth – a Vin Doux Naturel from Roussillon that brings chocolate and ripe fruit into a long, warm finish.
Domaine Lafage lies in the heart of Roussillon, between the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean. Jean-Marc Lafage manages the estate together with his wife Eliane and sources the grapes for this Maury from the eponymous appellation in the north of the region – one of the few places in France where Grenache Noir is vinified on black slate to create a Vin Doux Naturel. The mutage – the addition of brandy during fermentation – stops the fermentation process and preserves natural fruit sweetness as well as a robust alcohol base.
In the glass, the wine displays a deep ruby red color. The nose is dominated by black cherry, blackberry, and plum, underpinned by cocoa, licorice, and a hint of dried fig. On the palate, the wine is velvety and dense, the sweetness balanced by a fresh acidity that prevents heaviness. The finish is long, warm, and subtly toasty.
