Elena Walch Chardonnay Selezione

A Chardonnay from South Tyrol that lets you feel the high altitude: cool, precise, with an acid structure that combines freshness and substance.

Elena Walch is one of South Tyrol's most renowned wineries. The family manages vineyards in Tramin on the Wine Road as well as the historic Castel Ringberg on Lake Kaltern – both locations that stand for mineral precision and aromatic clarity. The Selezione Chardonnay shows what alpine vineyard sites can get out of this grape variety: no heaviness, no excess wood, but elegance with backbone.

In the glass, a light golden yellow. On the nose, ripe pear, citrus blossom, and a hint of white peach. The palate is slender and lively – fine-limbed acidity that carries the wine without dominating it. The finish shows a subtle mineral note and ends cleanly.

Serving temperature: 10–12 °C. Pairs well with zander with butter-caper sauce, light poultry in cream, or a ripe mountain cheese from the Vinschgau. Also a safe choice as an aperitif with grilled vegetable skewers.

Elena Walch

Elena Walch – an architect by passion, a winemaker by conviction. Since 1985, she has dedicated herself wholeheartedly to her vineyards. Her motto: "Good wine doesn't grow by itself!" She has uncompromisingly transformed the two South Tyrolean Cru vineyards, Castel Ringberg and Kastelaz, owned exclusively by her family. Piece by piece, she converted the pergola trellises into modern Guyot training systems with Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot. The result: low yields, healthy grapes, gentle vinification with targeted use of oak. Fruity, elegant white wines – and red wines, pure "tigers on velvet paws." Top-class South Tyrolean wines with a clear signature.
