Elena Walch

Elena Walch – an architect by passion, a winemaker by conviction. Since 1985, she has dedicated herself wholeheartedly to her vineyards. Her motto: "Good wine doesn't grow by itself!" She has uncompromisingly transformed the two South Tyrolean Cru vineyards, Castel Ringberg and Kastelaz, owned exclusively by her family. Piece by piece, she converted the pergola trellises into modern Guyot training systems with Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot. The result: low yields, healthy grapes, gentle vinification with targeted use of oak. Fruity, elegant white wines – and red wines, pure "tigers on velvet paws." Top-class South Tyrolean wines with a clear signature.

Elena Walch –
Architecture in the vineyard, precision in glass

Elena Walch came to wine as an architect – and brought this mindset with her to the vineyard. Since 1985, she has cultivated the two South Tyrolean Cru vineyards Castel Ringberg and Kastelaz, which are solely owned by her family. Where pergola trellises once dominated, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot now grow using the modern Guyot training system – a transformation that took decades and was consistently implemented.

The result is low yields, healthy grapes, and gentle vinification with targeted use of oak. The white wines display fruit and precision, the red wines a velvety structure with genuine depth – South Tyrol at the level the region is capable of when someone is willing to invest the work.

Today, Elena Walch, together with her daughters Julia and Karoline, represents a style that takes its origins seriously: no compromises in the vineyard, no embellishment in the cellar. What ends up in the glass is what the location provides – nothing more, but also nothing less.
