Elena Walch Lagrein Selezione

Elena Walch Lagrein Selezione
Lagrein is one of South Tyrol's most distinctive grape varieties—deep ruby purple in color, dense tannins, and a spiciness rarely found elsewhere. The Elena Walch Selezione demonstrates what this indigenous variety is capable of when in experienced hands.
The Elena Walch winery is one of the most prestigious estates in South Tyrol. Located in Tramin in the Überetsch region, the Walch-Giovannini family cultivates vineyards that have been known for quality winemaking for generations. The Selezione line stands for hand-picked grapes and meticulous cellar production.
In the glass, the Lagrein displays an intense color with violet reflections. The nose offers dark berry fruit—blackberry, black cherry—underpinned by violets and a subtle spiciness from oak aging. On the palate, it is dense and full-bodied, with powerful, well-integrated tannins and a lively acidity that gives the wine structure. The finish is long, slightly spicy, with a hint of cocoa.
Serving temperature: 16–18 °C . Pairs well with braised beef, venison ragù, or mature mountain cheeses such as Graukäse from the Ahrntal valley. Best enjoyed by 2030.
