Elena Walch, an architect by profession, has dedicated herself exclusively and with great commitment to her own vineyards since 1985. "Good wine doesn't grow by itself!" says Elena Walch when you talk to her about quality. This self-taught winemaker has thus ruthlessly transformed the two South Tyrolean Cru vineyards, Castel Ringberg and Kastelaz, both solely owned by the Walch family, in recent years. Piece by piece, the pergola planted with Vernatsch grapes had to give way to modern Guyot trellises with grape varieties such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot. Low yields, healthy grapes, and gentle vinification with the highly selective use of oak produce refined, fruity, and elegant white wines with a delicate varietal character, as well as full-bodied and harmonious red wines—pure "tigers on velvet paws." In the glass, this wine from Elena Walch shines with a deep, intense ruby ​​red. The bouquet of this Merlot is complex, revealing aromas of wild strawberries, dark chocolate, a touch of mint, and subtle oak. On the palate, the Selezione Merlot is full-bodied and smooth with well-integrated acidity. The tannins are firm and lead to a spicy finish.
