Boschendal Heritage Collection Black Angus

A powerful Cape blend that combines South African winemaking history with meticulous craftsmanship. The Boschendal Heritage Collection Black Angus is a structured red wine with depth and a long finish — named after the Angus cattle that still graze on the estate today.

Boschendal is one of South Africa's oldest wineries, founded in 1685 in the Franschhoek Valley, one of the Cape's most prestigious wine regions. Nestled between the Drakenstein and Simonsberg Mountains, the estate boasts a continental climate and well-drained granite and schist soils, creating ideal conditions for robust red wines. The Heritage Collection represents the estate's most ambitious wines—blends that reflect the farm's terroir.

The Black Angus blends Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc , aged for 14 months in 300-liter oak barrels. The nose reveals aromas of blackberry and plum, underpinned by notes of cocoa, black pepper, and a hint of cinnamon. On the palate, the wine is dense yet not heavy: firm, well-integrated tannins, a supportive acidity, and a long, spicy finish with hints of dark chocolate and tobacco.

Serving temperature: 17–18 °C. Drinking window: now until 2030. Pairs well with beef fillet with peppercorn sauce , braised lamb shoulder, or strong hard cheeses like Manchego. If opened young, decant for at least 30 minutes—this allows the tannins time to soften.

Boschendal

In 1685, Jean Le Long founded the Boschendal winery in South Africa. The name translates to "forest and valley," aptly describing the region 60 kilometers east of Cape Town where the winery is located. The winemakers cultivate a total of 350 hectares of vineyards, spread across altitudes ranging from 120 to 350 meters, allowing different wines to be grown under the optimal conditions for each. Boschendal's vineyards are characterized by clay soils and the so-called Tukuli soils, on which white and red grape varieties are grown for both classic wines and sparkling wines. In the winery's modern cellars, 2.88 million bottles of wine are bottled annually.
