Boschendal Heritage Collection Black Angus

A powerful Cape blend that combines South African wine history with precise craftsmanship. The Boschendal Heritage Collection Black Angus is a structured red wine with depth and a long finish — named after the Angus cattle that still graze on the estate today.

Boschendal is one of the oldest wineries in South Africa, founded in 1685 in the Franschhoek Valley, one of the most renowned wine-growing regions in the Cape region. The estate is nestled between the Drakenstein and Simonsberg mountains, where a continental climate and well-drained granite and shale soils create ideal conditions for powerful red wines. The Heritage Collection represents the estate's most ambitious wines — cuvées that reflect the farm's terroir.

The Black Angus combines Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc in a blend that has been aged for 14 months in 300-liter wooden barrels. The nose reveals blackberry and plum, underpinned by cocoa, black pepper, and a hint of cinnamon. On the palate, the wine feels dense but not heavy: firm, well-integrated tannins, a supportive acid structure, and a long, spicy finish with notes of dark chocolate and tobacco.

Serving temperature: 17–18 °C. Pairs well with beef fillet with pepper sauce, braised lamb shoulder, or a strong hard cheese like Manchego. If opening it young, it should be decanted for at least 30 minutes — this gives the tannins time to open up.
