The nose reveals opulent notes of dark fruits together with refreshing, lighter berry notes, for which the Merlot portion is responsible. On the palate, the Lanoy, which had brief contact with wood, is beautifully round and picks up the fruit notes again. Cassis and cherry aromas harmonize with light roasted notes.

10% of the wine was aged in new French oak barrels, 15% in second-fill barrels, 25% in third-fill barrels for one year, another 25% in large wooden barrels, and the rest was aged in steel tanks

The Winery

Boschendal

In 1685, Jean Le Long founded the Boschendal winery in South Africa. Translated, the name means “forest and valley” and thus describes the region 60 kilometers east of Cape Town, where the winery can be found, very well.

The winemakers have a total of 350 hectares of vineyards, which are distributed at altitudes of 120 to 350 meters, so different wines can be grown at the best altitudes for them.

Boschendal's vineyard areas are characterized by clay soils and the so-called Tukulu soils, on which white and red grape varieties are grown for both classic wines and sparkling wines. In the winery's modern cellar facilities, 2.88 million bottles of wine are bottled annually.
