Boschendal 1685 Shiraz

A classic South African Shiraz from two of the Cape's most renowned wine regions: Franschhoek and Stellenbosch. Fourteen months of barrel aging give it structure and depth.

Boschendal is one of South Africa's oldest wineries—founded in 1685, hence the name. The vineyards around Franschhoek benefit from the cool influence of the Atlantic, which gives the wines a fresh character despite the Mediterranean climate. Deliberately low yields ensure concentrated grapes.

Dark berry fruit on the palate: blackberry, black plum, a hint of clove. The 14 months in barrique impart subtle toasty notes and vanilla without overpowering the fruit. Medium to full-bodied, soft tannins, pleasantly long finish.

Serving suggestion: Serve at 16–18 °C. Pairs well with grilled lamb loin, beef brisket, or strong hard cheeses. Also a simple and enjoyable drink on its own.

Boschendal

In 1685, Jean Le Long founded the Boschendal winery in South Africa. The name translates to "forest and valley," aptly describing the region 60 kilometers east of Cape Town where the winery is located. The winemakers cultivate a total of 350 hectares of vineyards, spread across altitudes ranging from 120 to 350 meters, allowing different wines to be grown under the optimal conditions for each. Boschendal's vineyards are characterized by clay soils and the so-called Tukuli soils, on which white and red grape varieties are grown for both classic wines and sparkling wines. In the winery's modern cellars, 2.88 million bottles of wine are bottled annually.
