Boschendal 1685 Chenin Blanc

Boschendal 1685 Chenin Blanc
A South African Chenin Blanc that shows why this grape variety is so at home in the Western Cape: fresh, aromatic, with enough substance to accompany food.
Boschendal is one of South Africa's oldest wineries – founded in 1685 in the Franschhoek Valley, with vineyards now stretching from Franschhoek to the Helderberg region. The 1685 line represents approachable, single-varietal wines from these classic Cape regions, where cool sea breezes from the Atlantic and Indian Oceans ensure slow ripening and aromatic intensity.
In the glass, the Chenin Blanc displays aromas of green apple, guava, and a hint of honeydew melon. The acidity is lively but not sharp – it gives the wine structure and keeps the finish fresh. No oak influence, no heaviness: a clear, straightforward white wine with good length for its style.
Serving temperature 8–10 °C. Pairs well with grilled cod or hake, Asian noodle dishes with coconut milk, or fresh goat cheese. It also makes a great, uncomplicated aperitif before a meal. Drink now – not for aging.

In 1685, Jean Le Long founded the Boschendal winery in South Africa. The name translates to "forest and valley," aptly describing the region 60 kilometers east of Cape Town where the winery is located. The winemakers cultivate a total of 350 hectares of vineyards, spread across altitudes ranging from 120 to 350 meters, allowing different wines to be grown under the optimal conditions for each. Boschendal's vineyards are characterized by clay soils and the so-called Tukuli soils, on which white and red grape varieties are grown for both classic wines and sparkling wines. In the winery's modern cellars, 2.88 million bottles of wine are bottled annually.
