About the evening

Where the Roussillon borders the Mediterranean and the peaks of the Pyrenees rise up, is the home of Domaine Lafage. The winemaking couple Eliane and Jean-Marc Lafage understand like no other how to capture the wild beauty and climatic diversity of this region. Through the skillful interplay of three different cultivation zones – from soils near the sea to wind-swept slate formations in the Agly Valley and cooler high altitudes – wines of enormous freshness, depth, and expressiveness are created. On this evening, we will travel together to the sun-drenched south of France and discover wines full of character that breathe real soul into modern winemaking.

Including wine sensation: Deux Parcelles 2024

Look forward to tasting the Deux Parcelles from Domaine Lafage this evening. This exceptional wine tells the story of two extreme landscapes: the depth and dark spice of 80-year-old mountain vines meet the juicy freshness and elegance of ancient coastal parcels by the Mediterranean. Dense blackberry and cassis fruit, silky tannins, and fine wood notes of cocoa and roasted coffee make this 2024 vintage an unforgettable pleasure.

Whether you are already a fan of Lafage creations or are experiencing the terroir of the Roussillon for the first time: an atmospheric evening full of discoveries, culinary synergies, and authentic flair awaits you.

How the evening works

On this special evening, winemaker Jean-Marc Lafage himself will accompany you through the program together with our wine expert in an entertaining and well-founded way. We will present the matching wines for each course and give you insights directly from the source: How do the different soils of the Roussillon shape the character of the vines? Why do ancient vineyards play such a decisive role? And what makes the composition of the grape varieties – as with our Red Wine of the Year – so unique?

Whether you want to ask Jean-Marc personal, detailed questions about Grenache, Carignan, or Syrah, or simply want to enjoy the evening in good company – all questions are welcome. Expert knowledge is not required; your enjoyment is the focus.

Jean-Marc Lafage

Jean-Marc Lafage

Winemaker & Oenologist

Jean-Marc Lafage is an internationally renowned winemaker and the head of Domaine Lafage in the Roussillon region of southern France. After gaining worldwide experience as a consulting oenologist, he returned to his homeland to bring the terroir between the Mediterranean and the Pyrenees to life in authentic, characterful wines.

Participating winery

Domaine Lafage

Jean-Marc Lafage is a seventh-generation winemaker – his family has been growing wine in Roussillon for over two hundred years. Even as a child, he helped in the vineyards; at twelve, he knew he wanted to become an oenologist, and later became one of the youngest in France. Together with his wife Eliane, also an oenologist, he traveled half the world – from South Africa to California to Australia – before the two returned to their Catalan home in 1995 and built their own winery around Perpignan, Canet-en-Roussillon, and Maury. Their home is the Mas Miraflors, a 15th-century Catalan country house that is now the heart of one of Roussillon's most well-known wineries.

What makes Roussillon so special is its mosaic of terroirs – and that is exactly where Lafage's greatest strength lies. His vineyards stretch from the foothills of the Pyrenees to the coast of the Mediterranean: steep terraces with old vines, schistous soils along the Agly, calcareous alluvial soils near the coast, and wind-swept plateaus in the hinterland. Native varieties such as Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Carignan grow on these very different sites – many of the vines are over fifty years old. Three examples show the range particularly impressively: "Cayrol," a powerful Carignan from the Vallée de l'Agly; "Grenache au cube," a grape variety from three regions full of sour cherry and silky tannins; and "Miraflors Rosé," the perfect freshness kick for hot days. Whether fruit monster or elegant drop – at Lafage, you will find wines with real character.
