Ambre Hors D'age

Ambre Hors d'Âge from Domaine Lafage is no ordinary white wine – it belongs to the rare category of oxidatively aged Ambres from Roussillon, which have more in common with an old Tawny Port or Rancio than with a fresh white wine.

Domaine Lafage is located in Perpignan, in the heart of Roussillon, on the Catalan border. Jean-Marc and Eliane Lafage cultivate over 200 hectares and are among the region's most renowned producers. Their Ambre line is based on Grenache Blanc and Grenache Gris, which, after harvesting, are aged in old wooden barrels under controlled oxidation – a traditional method practiced in Roussillon for centuries.

In the glass, the wine shines a deep amber. The nose reveals dried apricot, candied orange, roasted hazelnut, and a hint of walnut and caramel. On the palate, it is full-bodied with a subtle sweetness supported by a fresh acidity – not cloying, but perfectly balanced. The finish is long, spicy, and slightly salty.

Domaine Lafage

Jean-Marc Lafage – a seventh-generation winemaker. His feel for vineyards, grapes, and cellar timing is exceptional. Together with his wife Eliane, an oenologist and wine expert, he creates wines of perfect balance, combining fruit, power, and elegance. His treasures? First-class vineyards at the foot of the Pic de Canigou – with old vines, steep slopes, and indigenous varieties such as Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Carignan. Three examples: "Cayrol" – a powerful Carignan from the Vallée de l'Agly. "Grenache au cube" – one grape variety, three regions, bursting with sour cherry and silky tannins. And "Miraflors Rosé" – the perfect refreshing pick-me-up for hot days. Whether you're looking for a fruit-packed wine or an elegant rosé, you'll find wines with character here.
