Ürziger Würzgarten Spätlese - golden capsule

A dense Spätlese from one of the most distinctive steep slopes of the Mosel. In the Markus Molitor color system, the golden capsule traditionally stands for naturally sweet Prädikatswein and announces a Riesling with enormous aging potential.

Grown in the Ürziger Würzgarten, the old vines here are deeply rooted in red volcanic rock and slate. The winery at the Wehlener Klosterberg cultivates these extreme slopes with uncompromising manual labor. After a late harvest and a strict selection of the berries, the must ferments spontaneously and without the addition of additives in large wooden barrels. This traditional maturation gives the wine the necessary peace to develop its complex vineyard character.

In the glass, a clear profile is revealed with fine slate spice and aromas of ripe peach. On the palate, the Spätlese unfolds a lush fruitiness. The residual sweetness does not feel heavy, but is captured by a delicate minerality and a playful acidity structure before transitioning into a long finish.

Serve this Riesling at 8 to 10 °C. It is an excellent accompaniment to aged blue cheese, fruity desserts with apricot, or Asian curries with a fine ginger heat.
