Schieferteil Riesling - white capsule
Markus Molitor's Schiefersteil Riesling, with its distinctive white capsule, embodies the uncompromisingly dry Mosel character. Grown on the spectacular steep slopes surrounding the Wehlener Klosterberg, the vines, some of them ancient, root deep in the rock. The winery operates entirely by hand, harvesting the grapes late to ensure a high aromatic intensity through rigorous selection and low yields. Fermentation is exclusively spontaneous, primarily in traditional large wooden casks, without any stabilizing agents.
In the glass, this Riesling displays precise, clear fruit, directly underpinned by a delicate spiciness and cool slate notes. On the palate, the wine is taut and lean, yet simultaneously offers a delicate fruit ripeness and tremendous intensity. The mouthfeel remains focused until the Riesling bids farewell with a long, intensely saline and mineral finish.
This purist style calls for clear, understated flavors on the plate. Serve the wine at 8 to 10 °C . It pairs well with pan-fried pike-perch on leek vegetables, fresh oysters, or a delicate veal fricassee. This Mosel Riesling also reveals its full potential as a mineral aperitif for discerning guests.
