Mustazzo Cannonau di Sardegna DOC

Sardinia, highlands of the Nuoro province: Here, Cannonau grapes thrive under extreme conditions – barren soils, intense sun, and cool nights. The Mustazzo from Sella & Mosca demonstrates what this island grape variety is capable of in its classic form.

Sella & Mosca is one of the oldest and largest wineries in Sardinia. Founded in 1899 near Alghero, the estate now cultivates around 500 hectares – making it one of the largest contiguous vineyards in Europe. The focus is on indigenous grape varieties, above all Cannonau, which is genetically identical to Grenache but has developed its own distinct expressions in Sardinia.

In the glass, the Mustazzo displays a deep ruby red color. The nose opens with ripe black cherries and blackberries, along with a hint of violets and dried herbs – typical of the Sardinian maquis character. Aging in stainless steel tanks keeps the fruit fresh and the tannins soft. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with lively acidity and a rounded finish with a touch of spice.

Ready to drink now until 2027. Serving temperature: 16–17 °C. Pairs well with grilled lamb, Pecorino Sardo, wild boar salami or a pasta ragù with juniper.

Sella & Mosca

The Italian winery Sella & Mosca was founded in 1899 by Emilio Sella and Edgardo Mosca. Located on the island of Sardinia, near the city of Alghero, it is now owned by the Campari Group. A total of 550 hectares of vineyards are used to cultivate grapes for the production of both white and red wines. The volcanic soils, combined with the local Mediterranean climate, provide perfect conditions for vine growth. Grape varieties used for red wine production include Connonau, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carignano, and Merlot. Sella & Mosca's white wines are made from grape varieties such as Vermentino, Sauvignon Blanc, and Torbato.
