Moulin-à-Vent Clos de Rochegrès Château des Jacques

Moulin-à-Vent is considered the most full-bodied and longest-lived of the ten Beaujolais Crus — and the Clos de Rochegrès from Château des Jacques is one of the most convincing addresses for this.

Since its acquisition by Louis Jadot (1996), Château des Jacques has stood for a Burgundian-influenced approach in Beaujolais: hand-picking, consistent selection, aging in wooden barrels. The Clos de Rochegrès is a single vineyard with deep manganite-granite soil — the geological basis for the typical spice and aging potential of this wine.

In the glass, it shows dark cherry, plum, and some violet, underlaid by a subtle earthiness and mineral hints. The palate is full-bodied, the tannins present but with a velvet feel — no scratching, rather a pleasant structure that makes the wine suitable for further years of development. The finish is long, slightly spicy.
