Matthias Gaul Mr. Gaul red
A red wine for the evening that requires no great preparation – the Herr Gaul Rot from Matthias Gaul combines accessibility with genuine character.
Matthias Gaul lives in Kindenheim in the northern Palatinate, a region with a warm continental climate and loess soils that provide red wine grapes like Pinot Noir and Merlot with consistent ripening and aromatic intensity. The cuvée of both varieties plays on the best of both halves: the fresh acidity and fruit depth of the Pinot Noir meets the velvety richness of the Merlot.
In the glass, the wine opens with aromas of ripe cherries and blackberries, followed by a subtle hint of citrus peel and dried herbs. On the palate, it displays a medium body with soft, well-integrated tannins – no harshness, but rather a rounded finish with a touch of spice. The acidity remains lively enough to give the wine freshness without being intrusive.
