Wachtenburg Merlot Pfalz dry
A red wine that doesn't need a big stage to impress – the Wachtenburg Merlot Pfalz dry from the Wachtenburg winemakers is exactly what you want after a long day: uncomplicated, full-bodied and honestly made.
On the nose, it displays ripe blackberries and black cherries , underpinned by a hint of black pepper. On the palate, it then unfolds what makes a good Merlot: velvety, rounded tannins , a pleasant density, and a harmonious, long finish. No harshness, no fatigue – just a wine that empties the glass faster than you'd expect.
The Palatinate region, with its warm climate, provides ideal conditions for Merlot: the grapes ripen fully, the fruit remains juicy, and the oak influence recedes into the background. You can taste the difference.
This wine is your perfect companion for:
- Braised beef, leg of lamb or game dishes
- Mature hard cheeses such as Comté or Manchego
- Hearty pasta with tomato and meat sauce
- Spending the evening on the balcony – for no reason at all
Serving temperature: 16–18 °C . Decanting for 20–30 minutes is recommended.

The Wachtenburg Winzer eG cooperative from Wachenheim on the German Wine Route is one of the oldest winegrowers' cooperatives in the Palatinate region: founded in 1900 by 53 Palatinate winegrowers, it now represents the shared craft of 24 winegrowing families who cultivate 350 hectares together. It takes its name from the striking Wachtenburg castle ruins high above Wachenheim—a landmark that is literally reflected in the wines of this cooperative. The focus is on Riesling, but the range extends to over 13 white and 11 red grape varieties, catering to a wide variety of tastes. High-quality wine enjoyment at fair prices and careful stewardship of the vineyards—this is the shared philosophy that unites all these winegrowing families.
