St. Daniel Pinot Noir Riserva

A Blauburgunder from the Riserva category that shows how far the grape variety has developed in South Tyrol: dense, spicy, and with the velvety finish that only longer barrel aging can provide.

The Kellerei Schreckbichl, also known as Colterenzio, is based in Girlan near Eppan and is one of the pioneers of South Tyrolean quality viticulture. The St. Daniel site is located on warm, calcareous soils on the Eppan hill – ideal for Pinot Noir, which gains structure and depth here without losing its elegance. For the Riserva, only the best grapes are selected, and the wine is subsequently aged in wooden barrels for significantly longer than the base version.

In the glass, there are notes of sour cherry, dried walnut shell, and a hint of cinnamon, underpinned by a fine vanilla note from the barrique. On the palate, the wine feels juicy and dense at the same time; the tannins are ripe and velvety, the finish long and slightly spicy. Serving temperature 16–17 °C, best decanted half an hour before drinking.

A wine for braised veal, duck with dark cherries, or aged mountain cheese – and for evenings when there is a little more time for the wine.
