Schreckbichl Blauburgunder

The Schreckbichl Blauburgunder shows why South Tyrol is one of the most exciting addresses for Pinot Noir outside of Burgundy: a red wine with bright fruit, fine structure, and the cool elegance that only high altitudes can produce.

The Schreckbichl winery, also known as Colterenzio, is based in Girlan near Eppan in the Überetsch region. The cooperative cultivates vineyards at various altitudes in the South Tyrolean lowlands, where Blauburgunder ripens on calcareous, permeable soils. The day-night temperature differences in these locations ensure grapes with lively acidity and a fine tannin structure — the best prerequisites for a delicate Pinot Noir.

In the glass, the wine presents aromas of sour cherry and wild strawberry, underscored by a hint of violets and a subtle spicy note. On the palate, it is lean and juicy, the tannins are velvety integrated, and the finish lingers with a slightly spicy aftertaste.

Best served at 14 to 16 degrees. The Schreckbichl Blauburgunder pairs just as harmoniously with bacon dumplings, fried calf's liver, or grilled salmon as it does with a plate of spicy mountain cheese — a versatile food partner for a convivial evening.
