Kastèlt Cabernet Sauvignon Riserva

The Kastèlt Cabernet Sauvignon Riserva is a dense, powerful red wine that needs time in the glass to reveal its full depth. As a Riserva, it undergoes a longer maturation period than the basic quality – you can taste this in the concentration and the ripe tannin structure.

It is produced by the Kellerei Schreckbichl (Colterenzio) in Girlan in the South Tyrolean Überetsch, a cooperative founded in 1960 that is known for its precise handling of international grape varieties on the warm, sun-exposed slopes between Bolzano and Lake Caldaro. Here, on calcareous, well-aerated soils, Cabernet Sauvignon finds ideal conditions for concentration and ripening power.

In the glass, the wine shows dark berry fruits such as cassis and blackberry, underpinned by notes of cedar wood, a little tobacco, and a hint of graphite – typical companions of barrique aging. Dense and juicy on the palate, with firm but ripe tannins and a long, spicy finish.

Best served at 16 to 18 °C, decanted half an hour before serving. It accompanies braised roasts, grilled red meat, game dishes, or aged hard cheese and is suitable for a quiet evening with time to enjoy the wine in the glass.
