Schreckbichl Merlot

A Merlot from South Tyrol — that means: alpine freshness meets Mediterranean ripeness. The Schreckbichl winery (Colterenzio) in Girlan near Bolzano is one of the region's most reliable producers, known for its precise varietal style and meticulous cellar management.

This Merlot showcases what distinguishes South Tyrol from warmer Merlot regions: ripe dark fruit—blackberry, plum—with a cool herbal note and well-integrated tannins. Aging takes place in small oak barrels, which gives the wine structure without masking the fruit. Medium to full-bodied, with a pleasant finish.

Serving temperature 16–18 °C. Pairs well with roast beef, leg of lamb with rosemary, aged Pecorino cheese or hearty South Tyrolean dishes such as Schlutzkrapfen with butter and sage.

Schreckbichl Winery – South Tyrolean winemaking since 1960. Twenty-six winegrowers joined forces back then to gain more independence. Today, there are approximately 300 members cultivating around 300 hectares between 230 and 650 meters above sea level – one of South Tyrol's finest vineyard sites. Tradition and modernity go hand in hand here: meticulous handwork in the vineyard, natural farming practices, state-of-the-art cellar technology, photovoltaics, and heat recovery. The portfolio includes Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer, as well as Pinot Noir, Merlot, and Vernatsch. Authentic wines with regional character.
