Reichsrat von Buhl Chardonnay

A Chardonnay from the traditional Palatinate winery Reichsrat von Buhl — fermented in wooden barrels, with clear fruit and an acid structure that makes the wine interesting beyond the first sip.

Reichsrat von Buhl is one of the oldest and most renowned wineries in the Palatinate, with vineyards in Deidesheim, Forst, and Ruppertsberg. The grapes for this Chardonnay come exclusively from the estate's own vineyards. Fermentation in wooden barrels gives the wine structure without dominating it—after which it matures for several more months in the bottle.

In the glass, it displays a clear yellow color. The nose offers ripe pear, a hint of white peach, and subtle notes of brioche from the oak aging. On the palate, it is full-bodied with ripe, integrated acidity and a mineral finish. The finish is pleasantly long, spicy, and creamy.

Drinking recommendation: Drinkable now, best enjoyed by 2026. Serving temperature 11–13 °C. Pairs well with chicken breast with herb butter, creamy pasta dishes, or a mature Brie.

Reichsrat von Buhl

The Reichsrat von Buhl winery has been among Germany's most prestigious wineries for over 150 years and, like its equally traditional neighbors Dr. Deinhard and Bassermann-Jordan, is now owned by the Neustadt-based entrepreneur Achim Niederberger. The current Gault Millau guide praises the consistently excellent wines from the Reichsrat von Buhl winery in recent vintages, ever since a young team, including the experienced estate manager Stefan Weber, took over management as tenants, and feels transported back to the "glorious old days" of the von Buhl winery. Significant investments in the winery in recent years have contributed greatly to this success.
