Rauenthaler Baiken Riesling Spätlese VDP 1st Growth
The ownership of estates on the Rauenthaler Berg was first documented in the property register of Tiefenthal Monastery in the early 13th century. In 1900, the Prussian government acquired the Baiken vineyard for 1.12 million gold marks. The name "Baiken" derives from the word "Biegen" (to bend), as the vineyard lies in a bend. The steep south-facing slope, with an incline of up to 60%, benefits from optimal sun exposure. The soils are medium to deep, stony, and mostly lime-free. They consist of weathered slate, phyllite, quartzite, and loess loam. Intense fruitiness meets finely integrated, harmonious spice – a well-balanced wine with depth and expression.
